Review: The Create credit card from Lloyds TSB is another card that repackages the Accucard product. As with all cards that use the underlying Accucard technology, this features the same online “slider” system that allows the individual to tailor the product to their own specifications.

The Create-branded version is not a particularly strong performer compared to other credit cards on the market, or indeed other Accucard-based options. This is very surprising indeed, considering that Lloyds TSB acquired the Accucard Company in 2003.

Unlike the Accucard’s rather generous maximum cashback option of 0.8% (and the market leader, American Express Blue, at 1%), the Lloyds TSB Create card offers a relatively miserly 0.5% cashback. As with all cards, higher cashback comes at the cost of a higher APR, but in this case, you find that when set to maximum cashback for both Accucard and Create (both are individually customisable), both offer the same standard APR of 14%, even though the Accucard offers the higher cashback. They also both provide 0% for 6 months on balance transfers, so there is not really much value in the Create card.

All in all, this is a very average credit card, and there are many better cards on the market. If you have a Lloyds TSB bank account, you may be tempted to get the Create card for ease-of-use, but as most high-street bank branches are not able to deal with credit card queries, it’s hard to find anything offered by the Lloyds TSB offering that cannot be bettered by the competition.
