Comments and Reviews
Aimed At: Individuals that shop at Marks & Spencers and usually clear their credit card balance in full each month.
Review: As rewards cards go, the Marks & Spencers card isn’t the worst thing we’ve seen, provided you actually shop frequently at M&S stores. If you do, you effectively earn 1% on your purchases, through vouchers redeemable at M&S. If this card is used elsewhere, it works out at 0.5% earned, again for savings at M&S stores.

M&S made the national news recently, when the Office of Fair Trading censured the company for automatically “upgrading” some M&S store cards to the full credit card.

Despite this, if you do use the M&S store card (store cards, as a general rule, provide the highest levels of APR around), then this is not such a bad deal at 14.9% APR.

As with all rewards cards, it is only worth considering if you clear your balance in full each month, otherwise the 14.9% APR will cost you much more than the savings accrued through collecting rewards points.

Overall, worth considering if you use the M&S store card, or just shop frequently at the M&S store. If this is not the case, but you want a rewards card that doesn’t tie you down to one shop, we suggest you consider the various cashback cards available on the market, such as American Express Blue and Accucard.
