Branch Support
It is unlikely that your local branch will be able to deal with queries such as
the current balance of your account or how to dispute a recent transaction.
Not only do banks, in general, keep their credit card operations
separate, but some, such as Barclays, try to seperate the brand of their credit
card away from the main bank. When was the last time you heard a Barclaycard
referred to as a Barclays' credit card?
However, bank branches are often the fastest way of making
payments into your account. This can be particularly useful if you do not have
your credit card repayment set to repay automatically through a direct debit,
but instead choose to manually repay each month and forget to make a payment. If
you realise that you only have a very short period of time left to make your
monthly payment before being charged interest on your credit card
balance (the due date), then you can usually just pop into a local branch and
make this payment.
In addition to the network available from the big high street
banks and building societies, such as Barclays,
Lloyds
TSB and Nationwide,
you can usually make payments on Amex
cards by calling into American Express foreign
exchange centres.
